Brigitta Beck Aspiring Neuropsychologist
My Quest for Knowledge
February 11, 2015
Based on my experience, I plan to research and implement meaningful answers to the
following questions:
How can neuroplasticity be influenced in proactive ways to optimize brain performance?
Although every concussion is different, there needs to be a clear set of steps for treatment and rehabilitation – including the medical AND psychological remedies – so things don’t get missed and the concussed patient is confident that all the proper steps are taken. What is the most effective way to implement this type of policy?
How can the disciplines of sports psychology and neuropsychology be best integrated?
What is the right threshold when psychological counseling is introduced for better rehabilitation? In my opinion, anything beyond a mild concussion should receive initial counseling so the athlete moves past the “why me” dilemma and re-integrates more quickly back into life.
What are the right ways to let a person know that negative feelings are natural and part of the healing process? How are the inspirational emotional triggers discovered for each person?
How can we better train teachers and academic administrators to understand that, even though brain injuries are invisible, the effects are real and modifications may be required in the academic setting?
Why is it still so common to x-radiate the brain to initially diagnose a concussion when the symptoms clearly become apparent? This is especially problematic in a young still-developing brain.
